7 Months

My darling Kaylee ~

I truly can not believe that 7 months have passed so quickly. As much as I wish we could make this adorable baby stage last forever, the best parts of my day are seeing all the new things you are learning and doing. You are my joy.

Your new favorite thing is food. Daddy and I feel guilty any time we eat in front of you! We just know that you can't wait until you get to try everything that we're eating. For now, though, you love your baby food. We started some fruits this month, and you just love them! You've been eating a 1/2 jar of food for lunch and an entire jar at dinner time. What a good eater!!! You also got your first try with juice in a sippy this month and did great with it.

You're now off and rolling with the best of them. Although you prefer to be on your back, you're spending more and more time happy on your stomach and will roll 2-3 times to get to something you want. The only problem is that sometimes you get hung up because you won't take your thumb out of your mouth. Silly baby. You're still sitting like a champ and doing a great job of keeping your balance. Daddy starting having you practice walking the other day, and it made me so proud yet so sad. I can't believe you're so big now!!!

You have been talking virtually non-stop lately. We love hearing your constant stream of 'ba's, 'da's, and 'ga's, but I can't wait until you throw a few more 'ma's in the mix. It's just so funny, because we can tell that you just love the sound of your own voice. I love it too.

This is the last monthly milestone that you'll celebrate in our little apartment. We'll be moving soon so that you'll be closer to family and have more space to move and groove. This has been a good home for Daddy and Mommy and we'll never forget the place where we became a family.

I love you so much, Kaylee. You add so much joy and wonder to my life. Happy 7 months!!!

Two Videos

We got a new video of Kaylee in her jumperoo a week or so ago. She only gets put in it 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes or so while Mike and I share a meal together. This is the only time that she is completely happy to have independent play time. I'm glad that we don't abuse the jumperoo and that she just seems to love it so much.

Kaylee has been talking non-stop lately. It's a constant stream of "da-da-ba-ga-ga-da-ba-da-da-da." We get the occasional "ma," but that's mostly when she's pissed off about something. Mike says that's because she really needs her mommy just then. He's the sweetest! Kaylee's voice is just love lovely and she enjoys hearing herself so much. This video is kind of crap quality because I used my cell phone. The angle of the shot is super weird because when I held my phone up higher, Kaylee stopped talking altogether and stared at the blinking red light. Stubborn baby.

A Video For My Oh-So-Neglected Blog

I feel so bad that I've not posted very much here lately. I guess we just have a lot going on. You may have also noticed that my 360 project was an epic fail. Oh well. I guess my only excuse is that I'm a busy working mom. When I'm home, I'm trying to spend as much time with my girlie as possible. I can't believe that she's growing up so much right before our eyes!!!

Last night I let Kaylee try a sippy cup for the first time. I used the Playtex First Sipster. I think she did really great with the mechanics of holding it and bringing it to her mouth, but she didn't seem to care for the juice. I did 1/2 Gerber baby apple juice and 1/2 water. Maybe next time I'll try just a little bit of plain water. See for yourself...

Happy Half-Birthday!!!

My Dear Littlest Love ~

Today you are 6 months old. I can not believe how the time has flown by, but I have loved every single day that I've gotten to spend with you. You are the best thing I have ever done and I'm so proud to be your momma.

I'm so excited to go to the doctor later and find out how much you've grown this past month. You are still taking your bottles like a champ and love love love your vegetables. So far, your favorite seems to be squash, and I don't think you care for carrots. Last night you finally figured out that eating is a whole lot easier if you open you mouth wide for me. :)

You are getting so big and love sitting up now. You still wobble a little and fall right over when you get too excited. You still aren't terribly interested in rolling, but we know you can do it when you really want something.

You are talking more than ever, and have even added a consonant to your repertoire. We spend a lot of time now saying "Ba Ba Ba" along with you. Sometimes you're trying so hard to get those sounds out...it seems like you have so much to tell us, if only you could get it out. Your little voice is one of my most favorite sounds in the world.

Your daddy and I are so excited to tell people about what a great sleeper you are. You go right to bed after your last bottle and sleep until I wake you up in the morning. Thank you for that!!! You love to sleep on your side and make the cutest little noises from time to time. I love laying in bed and listening to you through the monitor.

I love you so much, baby girl! Happy half-birthday!!!

One Sad, Lonely Mommy

Tonight I will sleep in a different town as my baby. I will be in a strange bed in a hotel with no baby monitor next to my head for the first time in just over five months. I'm so sad and feel like something is terribly wrong.

I know that traveling is sometimes part of my job. I've managed to avoid it for this long, but I had to go this week. I keep telling myself that it's only one night; that it's a good start and good practice for longer trips; that Mike is wonderful with Kaylee and I have nothing to worry about. While these things are all true, none of them make a new mommy feel okay about spending a night away from her baby.

Will anyone hold it against me if I cry a little bit tonight? I sure hope not.

Holy Growth Spurt, Batman!

Yesterday my mom and I took Kaylee out to her office to weigh and measure her. She was 11lbs 8oz at her 4 month appointment, so I was guessing she'd be somewhere in the 13 pound range. Actually, Mike and I put an over/under bet on it...I guess over 13, he took the under. Imagine my surprise when the little girlie weighed in at 14lbs 6oz. She's huge!!! Kaylee gained nearly 3 pounds in one month. Not only that, but my mom plotted her on a growth curve, and she's now at the 25th percentile (up from the 9th percentile at 4 months). Wowza!!!

I'm so happy that she's growing so well now. I was so worried there for a while when nursing wasn't working and she was only gain 3 or 4 ounces a week. I dare say she's making up for lost time.
